USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline

USDA's Meat and Poultry Hotline is a toll-free telephone service that helps consumers prevent foodborne illness, specifically by answering their questions about safe storage, handling and preparation of meat and poultry products. The Hotline may be reached by calling:

  202-720-3333 (Washington DC area)
  1-800-256-7072 (TDD/TTY)

Callers may speak with a food safety specialist from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time, weekdays. Recorded messages are available at all times.

You may also send e-mail to mphotline.fsis@usda.gov. Please be sure to include your complete e-mail address and a daytime phone number in the body of the message, in case there are questions about your request.
